Plot / What It’s About:

Okay, so Mohra is one of those full-on Bollywood action thrillers from the 90s where everything is dialed up to 11. It kicks off with Raveena Tandon playing a journalist (Roma), who visits a prison and interviews this guy Vishal (Suniel Shetty). He’s in for murder, but you quickly find out it’s not that simple—his backstory is pretty tragic.

Roma gets super moved by his story and ropes in her editor, played by the always-classy Naseeruddin Shah, to help get Vishal released. Once he’s out, things get wild. Vishal starts going after the criminals that ruined his life—kind of like a one-man army situation.

Enter Akshay Kumar as the cop, Inspector Amar Saxena, who’s trying to make sense of the trail of bodies left behind. What follows is a tangle of shootouts, betrayals, and one of the coolest twists I did not see coming the first time I watched it. Trust me, it’s a ride.

My Thoughts:

I remember watching Mohra as a kid on a grainy VCR tape at my cousin’s place. We were way too young for some of the scenes (looking at you, “Tip Tip Barsa Paani”), but totally hooked by the action. That slo-mo walk Akshay does in the climax? Pure swagger.

The soundtrack is a whole mood. “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast” was literally playing at every wedding and school function back then. Viju Shah’s music was ahead of its time—it’s still catchy today.

Acting-wise, Suniel Shetty is super intense. He nails that emotional, brooding guy role. Akshay brings the charm and the punches, and Raveena? Absolute screen presence. Naseeruddin Shah’s role adds a nice layer of depth—you’ll see what I mean when the twist hits.

Does it have its melodramatic moments? Oh yeah. But that’s part of the fun. The slow-motion, the dramatic dialogues, the villains with sunglasses at night—Mohra leans into all of it, and somehow it works.
