Plot / What’s it About?

Nayaki is one of those horror-comedy films that tries to be spooky and silly at the same time. It’s about a film crew that goes to this old, creepy mansion to shoot a movie (classic bad decision, right?), and they end up being haunted by a ghost named Gayathri, played by Trisha Krishnan. She was an actress in the 80s who had a tragic end, and now she’s back with a vengeance.

Think Chandramukhi meets Scary Movie, but… not quite as effective as either.

My Take on It:

Alright, so here’s the thing—I really wanted to like this movie. I mean, Trisha in a retro get-up as a ghost actress from the 80s? That sounds like a whole mood. And I love a good horror-comedy when it’s done right. (Stree, anyone?)

But Nayaki just didn’t hit the mark for me. It had all the ingredients: a haunted house, a wronged woman’s ghost, a film crew asking for trouble… but it somehow ended up being more cringey than creepy.

The humor felt super forced. Like, I’ve seen old-school Tamil comedies with Kovai Sarala and Rajesh that made me laugh till I cried—this wasn’t that. The jokes were kind of stuck in a time warp. Also, the horror? Let’s just say, I’ve been more scared by a power outage in my apartment than anything this movie threw at me.

Trisha definitely gives it her best shot, though. You can tell she’s having fun with the role, especially in those flashback scenes where she channels vintage actress energy. And I’ll admit, the retro costumes and sets were a cool touch.

But after a while, it just felt like the movie didn’t know what it wanted to be—scary? funny? tragic? campy? It kinda wobbled in all directions and didn’t land anywhere solid.

Should You Watch It?

👎 Not really recommended.
Unless you’re a big Trisha fan or just want something light and cheesy for a lazy afternoon, I’d say skip this one. There are better horror-comedies out there that’ll actually make you laugh and jump. For More Movie review visit filmyfly!
