Director: Ken Scott
Writer: Luc Bossi (screenplay), based on Romain Puértolas’ novel
Cast: Dhanush, Bérénice Bejo, Erin Moriarty, Barkhad Abdi, Gérard Jugnot, Ben Miller

Plot / Synopsis:
So, here’s the gist: Aja, a street magician from Mumbai (played by the always-charming Dhanush), heads to Paris to find his long-lost dad. Sounds simple, right? Nope. What follows is a rollercoaster of an adventure involving an IKEA wardrobe, illegal border crossings, random European cities, and a whole lot of soul-searching. It’s like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty met Slumdog Millionaire—and had a quirky little baby.

Review:
Alright, real talk—I didn’t know what to expect from this film. I hit play thinking it would be another forgettable Euro-style comedy, but man, was I surprised. First off, Dhanush absolutely owns it. He brings such warmth and charm to the character of Aja that I found myself rooting for him from the first scene.
One moment that stuck with me? There’s this part where Aja gets stuck in a wardrobe (yes, literally) and ends up in another country. It sounds ridiculous, and it is, but somehow the movie makes it work in a magical, “just go with it” kind of way.

Sure, it’s a bit all over the place at times. The tone shifts—from comedy to serious immigration drama to romance—might make you go, “Wait, what genre is this again?” But honestly, that’s part of its charm. It reminded me of those random travel adventures where nothing goes according to plan but you come out with the best stories.
Also, props to the filmmakers for sneaking in real issues like immigration and privilege without making it preachy. It felt like a warm hug of a movie that still had something to say.

Recommended! Especially if you’re in the mood for something heartwarming, a bit wacky, and totally unpredictable. It’s not your typical Bollywood or Hollywood flick—it’s somewhere in between, which makes it a perfect pick for us movie lovers on Filmy4web.
